Aim

To raise children's awareness of the concept of justice.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about needing God.

Share with children the text of the next two Beatitudes.

Happy are those who don't push to get their own way,
the earth shall be theirs.

Happy are those who want justice more than anything else,
they shall see justice done.

Discuss with children the meaning of the word 'justice'. Invite them to talk about 'injustices' in their own lives and in the wider community.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • read the story of Jesus and blind Bartimeus. (Mark 10:46-52)
  • write a poem entitled 'It's not fair'.
  • think about ways in which their class / school / world could become a fairer place.
  • write about what they want more than anything else.
  • write about a time when they didn't get their own way.
