Through oral or written work, children could demonstrate their ability to:

  • recount outline of the story of Rama and Sita (AT1, 1a)
  • retell the story of Rama and Sita and identify the religious belief that good always triumphs over evil (AT1, 2a)
  • recognize features of how Hindus celebrate Divali (AT1, 1b)
  • identify that the practice of lighting divas / candles occurs within other religious traditions (AT1, 2b)
  • recognize the lighting of divas as a symbolic action (AT1, 1c)
  • suggest meaning in the symbolic action of lighting divas (AT1, 2c)
  • talk / write about their own experiences of New Year celebrations (AT2, 1a)
  • respond sensitively to the Hindu experience of Divali (AT2, 2a)
  • identify puzzling or interesting aspects within the celebration of Divali (AT2, 1b)
  • 2b discuss the behaviour of real life 'baddies' (Why do certain people act the way they do?) (AT2, 2b)
  • identify value of own New Year celebrations (AT2, 1c)
  • respond sensitively to the values expressed in the story of Rama and Sita (AT2, 2c)
