Aim

Aim: To introduce the ten commandments. To allow children the opportunity to participate in the setting of class rules.

Before the lesson prepare the story of the flight from Egypt.

Lesson

Begin by reminding children of what was taught in the previous lesson.

To whom did God make a promise? Did He keep His promise?

Now that the Israelites were out of Egypt, they were free to make promises to God. In all, God asked them to make 10 promises. Briefly share with the children each of the ten commandments.

As you have made a promise to the children to teach them as well as you possibly can, what promises would they like to make in return?

If no suggestions are forthcoming, perhaps you could recommend the following.

  • Do what I (the teacher) ask you to do, the first time.
  • Don't hurt other people.
  • Use things properly.
  • Don't run about in class.

It is important to have no more than four.

Conclusion

Conclude lesson with a class recitation of their promises.
