Aim

To acquaint children with the belief that God loves them.

Before the lesson re-aquaint yourself with the Exodus narrative.

Lesson

Begin lesson by asking the children to define a 'promise'.

What is a promise? Has anyone ever made a promise to them? What was it? Was the promise kept or broken?

They may be surprised to know of other promises which have made to them - for example, by you (as their teacher). Your promise is to try to teach them as well as you possibly can during the time they are in your class.

Their parents also made a promise to them? Do they know what it is?

God also makes promises to people.

Share with children the story of God's promise to the Israelites, when captive in Egypt. Begin the story with Moses and the burning bush and finish with the crossing of the Red Sea.

You could perhaps explore some of the plagues through movement.

Did God keep his promise to the Israelites?

God has also made a promise to the children. Do they know what it is?

God has promised to love them.
