God's Family |
|---|---|
AimAim: To widen children understanding of the term 'family'. To introduce them to the idea of God as Father Before the lesson photocopy the required number of worksheets. Remind yourself of the words of the Lord's Prayer. LessonBegin the lesson by asking children to remind you of the people in their immediate family. Perhaps you could look at the pictures they drew in the first term. Have their been any changes to their families? New siblings? Families re-united / living apart? How many people are in their families? Begin by counting immediate family members and then proceed onto aunties, uncles, cousins, etc. Are these people part of our families as well? Ask children to draw, write / talk about selected members of their extended family. What are their names? Where do they live? What do they look like? When did the children see them last? Invite volunteers to share their work with the rest of the class. Following discussion, ask the children to consider whether their class mates are also part of their family? (Opportunity here to stress the ethos of the school.) Christians believe that every person in the world is part of the same family, because we all have the same father - God. What do the children think of that idea? ConclusionConclude lesson by informing children that Jesus taught people to call God 'Daddy'. |
