Aim

To consider the role of forgiveness in their own relationships. To reflect on Jesus' forgiving nature.

Lesson

Begin by reviewing what was taught in the previous lesson. If the children had been Jesus, would they have still wanted to be Peter's friend after what he had done? The Bible says that, after a while, Jesus forgave Peter, because He knew that Peter was sorry.

Discuss the meaning of the phrase 'to forgive'. Invite the children to discuss times when they have granted or received forgiveness. Role play different situations.

Tell the children that Jesus also forgave other people who did much worse things to Him than Peter. Other people spat in His face, whipped Him and hung Him up on a wooden cross to die. But before He died, Jesus prayed to God. He said,

Father, forgive these people. They don't know what they are doing.
