Aim

To reflect on the similarities between people. To know that Christians believe Jesus to have been fully human.

Lesson

Begin by reviewing what was taught in the previous week. Remark on any similarities which may have been mentioned, for example, two children who received the same present, who live in the same street. Inform children that there are many similarities between people.

Choose a child to suggest three similarities between herself and you. Invite pairs of children, to do likewise.

As a class, can they do the same? You could focus on similarities which concern basic needs, for example, need for love, warmth, food, or those which concern common feelings, for example, joy, sadness, pain.

Children could record this work in an appropriate way.

In the Bible, Jesus is shown as having the same needs and emotions as other people. He ate, drank, slept, laughed, cried and began to grow up.

The Bible has only one story about Jesus as a child. Share with children the story of Jesus in the temple (Luke 2:41-52). Invite children to discuss their own experiences of being lost.
