Aim

Aim: To explore children's ideas about their futures.

Lesson

Begin by reviewing the work which has been done over the previous week on new born babies. Invite the children to think about all the ways in which they have changed since birth.

Following discussion, invite them to think about themselves as grown ups.

  • What will they look like?
  • Where will they live?
  • What will they do?

Activity

Children could draw, write or talk in response to these questions.

Jesus' Future

After Jesus' birth, the Bible says that Mary and Joseph took Him to the Temple to give thanks to God. There they met two old people, Simeon and Anna, who spent all their time praying in the Temple. God told Simeon and Anna things about Jesus, which they then told Mary and Joseph and everyone else who was in the Temple at that time. Simeon and Anna said that when He grew up, Jesus would become known throughout the world. He would become a famous teacher and would help to save the lives of many people. But, warned Simeon, things would also happen to Jesus which would make Mary very sad.

Conclusion

Conclude by telling children that after Christmas they will be learning about Jesus as a grown-up.
