To explore the meaning of the term 'home'.
Lesson
Revise what was taught in the previous week about families. Ask the children to describe in words and pictures where their families live.
What do they think of their homes? Show them a variety of different homes from around the world. How do they compare with their own homes?
In the Bible, there is a story about a king called Solomon who built 'a house for God'. It wasn't really a place where God lived, but it was a special and holy place where people came to pray.
Share with the children the story of the building of the Temple.
Activity
Following discussion, groups of children could:
- look at pictures of other temples
- create a picture of the inside of a temple using shiny materials
- show children picture of modern Jews praying at the Western Wall.
