To explore the meaning of the term 'family'.

Lesson

Begin by reviewing the work which was done last half term. Inform children that this half-term they are going to be thinking more about themselves. Something which they did not consider last term is the fact that everyone belongs to a family.

Invite children to talk about their families. Who are the people in their families? Who is the youngest and who is the oldest person? What interesting facts about the people in their families do the children wish to share with the rest of the class?

Children could draw their families or bring in photographs. This work could go towards a display.

In the Bible, there are lots of stories about families. Share with children the story of Isaac's birth in the Book of Genesis.
