Aim

To explore a range of different feelings

Lesson

Revise what was taught in the previous week about faces.

Faces often tell us a lot about how a person is feeling. Explore with the children a range of different facial expressions. What feelings do these convey?

Invite children to consider what makes them happy, sad, scared, angry etc. Children can draw or write about some of these things. (They can add these to their self-portraits.)

When the children are feeling upset or worried, who do they tell? How does this help?

In the Bible, people discuss their feelings with God. Share with children the following adaptation of Psalm 55. This is one of the many prayers of a king called David.

Listen to my prayer, God
I am troubled and upset
Someone who was my friend is saying bad things about me
We used to have a good friendship
But now, he wants to hurt me.
I am frightened inside
I am scared and shaking.
If I were a bird, I would fly far away and rest.
But here, there is danger everywhere.
Morning, noon and night I am
Troubled and upset,
But God will listen to me.
Give your worries to God.
He will take care of you.
He never lets good people down.
I will trust in God.

Conclusion

Conclude by informing children that you welcome hearing about their feelings.
