MON Inform children that this week they are going to be studying a very famous section from the New Testament called the Sermon on the Mount. This is a collection of Jesus' sayings and teachings. It begins with eight statements about happiness. These are called the Beatitudes. Read the Beatitudes with the children. Vocabulary extension using dictionaries. Compare text with different translation / version. Handwriting practice. How written texts are organized
TUE Read Happiness for Children published by Lion. Explore opposites beginning with happy/sad, poor/rich. Read Luke 18:9-14 as an illustration of the first Beatitude. Use worksheet to reflect or comment upon one of the Beatitudes. Share work with class
WED With the children's help, write eight rules for Happiness Uses of capitalization. Further develop written work produced yesterday Write own Happiness rules. Capitalization.
THU Inform the children that the Sermon on the Mount opens with the Beatitudes. It runs for three chapters and is full of Jesus' teachings. Give a short example. It then closes with a parable. Further work on opposites. Read further examples of intervening teaching, e.g. Matthew 5:13-16 Write a Dos and Donts of Building a House, based on the parable. Same as Monday
FRI Read The House on the Rock by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen. Adjectives. Plan extended version of the parable for performance. Plan character study of two builders. Performance of extended parable.
