The House of Prayer |
|---|---|
LessonBegin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the synagogue as a place of study. Another way Jews have of describing synagogue is the House of Prayer. What are the children's experiences of prayer, both private and corporate? Discuss. When they pray, many Jewish men and some Jewish women wear special clothes and accessories. Invite volunteers, selected towards the end of the last lesson, to share information on the tallit, the tephilin and the kippah. QuestionsHow do the children show respect? What important words do the children wish to remember? ActivitiesIn pairs or individually, the children could write a prayer to be said during their forthcoming Leavers' assembly. Many of the prayers in synagogue are sung. ConclusionConclude by playing children a recording of a sung Jewish prayer. |
