Bar/Bat Mitzvah |
|---|---|
LessonRevise what was taught in the previous lesson about Sabbath and the reading from the Torah. Only adults are allowed to read from the Torah. When does a person become an adult? Discuss. Are the children looking forward to becoming an adults? What will be the best / worst thing about being an adult? In the Jewish faith, a boy becomes an adult at 13, a girl at 12. From that age, they are called Bar/Bat Mitzvah. (A son / daughter of the Commandment) The Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony takes place in a synagogue. Share with children the details of the ceremony. How must the Bar / Bat Mitzvah feel? Have the children ever been in a similar type of situation? Year 6 children could be guided to reflect on their forthcoming change of status. What ceremony would be appropriate to mark this change? ConclusionConclude by sharing with children the traditional father's prayer. What do they think this means? |
