Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the mezuzah. The mezuzah is one of the ways in which Jewish people remember God. Another way in which they remember God is by saying 'blessings' throughout the day. Blessings are short prayers of thanks to God.

Share with children the words of a Jewish blessing.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • write short blessings to be said before doing an everyday activity
  • Count their Blessings
  • write about why Jewish people bless God.
Note
The children's blesings do not have to be addressed to God. They can be addressed to parents, friends, or no one in particular.
