Lesson

Begin by informing the children that this half term they are going to be learning about what are called the Five Pillars of Islam.

Discuss pillars with the children. What are they? What do they do? Use images, if available.

The Five Pillars of Islam are not real pillars, but they are the 5 practices / beliefs / values which support a Muslim's life.

Discuss with children the five most important practices / beliefs / values which support their lives. These might include Friendship, Family, Education, Sport, Church, Faith in God, Animals.

Can they represent these five pillars graphically?

Invite children to share their drawings with the rest of the class.
