Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the minor festivals. In the previous lessons, the children have explored events which are celebrated by the entire Muslim community worldwide. For individual Muslim families, a very important cause for celebration is the birth of a child.

Use text and images to inform children about Muslim birth and naming rituals.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• find out how children are welcomed into other traditions.
• write an acrostic based on their own names.
• find out how their births were celebrated.
