Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about Id-ul-Fitr. Tell the children that there are a number of minor festivals throughout the Islamic year, which celebrate different events in the life of the Prophet Muhammad, including the Prophet's birthday, the Night of Power, his flight to medina and his Night Journey.

Use text to inform children about the minor festivals. I have included the story of the Prophet's Night Journey to help you with work on this particular minor festival.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• devise a celebration based on an important event in their own lives.
• write a radio script of one of the events in Muhammad's life.
• find out about the life story of someone whom they respect.
