Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the Church Year. Inform the children that in the Church Year, we are currently between Easter Sunday and Ascension Day. At this time of the year, many Christians are remembering the stories in the Bible about Jesus after He had risen from the dead and before He went back to Heaven.

One of the most famous stories from this time is called The Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35).

Share the story with the children.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • explore the story through role play.
  • talk / write about a strange experience which they have had.
  • talk / write about why they think Jesus died.
  • make up a series of newspaper headlines which might have appeared during Holy Week.
