Teachers' NotesThis topic has been selected for the following reasons:
As part of this topic, I would strongly advise inviting a Christian into school to talk about their personal experience. The research projects suggested in these lessons could be done either within the class or as homework. ResourcesIn my opinion, the two most suitable versions of the Pilgrim's Progress for Key Stage 2 children are: Go with Christian! by A. and L. Parry, published by Hunt and Thorpe (ISBN 1-85608-215-2) The Dangerous Journey by A. Parry, published by Candle (ISBN 0-948902-96-5) The Salvation Army School's Information Service produces a student study pack, which, though aimed at KS3 and 4 students could be adapted for use at Key Stage 2. The pack which costs £3 can be ordered by phoning 020-7236 5222. Schools in Stockport can arrange a visit from a member of the Salvation Army by contacting Herbie or Patricia Yon on 0161-483 8385. Although not a Christian organization, Amnesty International draws widespread support from Christians of all denominations. The charity produces some excellent educational material for KS2, which can be ordered from their Youth and Schools Department on 020-7814 6200. Open Doors is a Christian charity which seeks to highlight the plight of persecuted Christians throughout the world. Open Doors can be contacted on 01865-300 262 The Jubilee 2000 Coalition is a Christian-backed group, campaigning for the cancellation of the unpayable debts of the world's poorest countries by the year 2000. Their telephone number is 020-7401 9999. The address of their web site is www.oneworld.org/jubilee2000. |
