Lesson

Begin by reminding children that Divali is, for many Hindus, the start of their New Year. For many Christian churches, their New Year begins on the first Sunday in December. This is called the first Sunday of Advent.

Use images, artefacts or text to inform children about the purpose and celebration of Advent.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• find out more about the Church Year
• write about a time when they had to wait
• make an Advent crown.
