The Tactics
- (At the festival of Pentecost), there were some religious Jews
staying in Jerusalem who were from every country in the world. When
they heard the noise (the disciples were making) a crowd came together.
They were all surprised because each one heard the disciples speaking
in his own language. They said,
"...we hear these men telling in our own languages about the
great things God has done.
- Peter said to them,
"Change your hearts and lives and be baptised, each one of
you... And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise
is for you. It is also for your children and for all who are far
away."
- The apostles were doing many miracles and signs.
- All the believers stayed together. They shared everything. They
sold their land and the things they owned. Then they divided the money
and gave it to those people who needed it.
- The believers met together in the Temple every day. They broke
bread in their homes, happy to share their food with joyful hearts.
They praised God and all the people liked them.
The Results
- More and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to
the group of believers. A great number of the Jewish priests believed
and obeyed too.
- When the Jewish leaders heard Stephen (one of the disciples) saying
all these things (about Jesus), they were very angry. They were so
angry that they were grinding their teeth. They covered their ears with
their hands and all ran at him. They took him out of the city and threw
stones at him until he was dead. The men throwing stones left their
coats with a young man named Saul. Saul agreed that the killing of
Stephen was a good thing.
