Aim

To understand the importance of Communion for Christians.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the Last Supper. When Jesus broke bread and drank wine at the Last Supper, He told his followers, "Do this in memory of me." In their services, many Christians remember Jesus by sharing bread and wine. Different Christians call this meal by different names - Communion, Eucharist, the Lord's Supper.

Use images, artefacts and text to inform children about the Communion service.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • talk / write about special meals which they have shared.
  • make observational drawings of the artefacts.
  • interview a Christian about how Communion is celebrated in their church.
