Aim

To become familiar with the Hallel.

Lesson

Revise what was taught in the previous lesson about the Seder. Many Jews attend synagogue every day during Pesach, where a special prayer called Hallel is recited. Hallel means 'praise' and is made up of the Psalms 113 to 118.

Share Psalms 113 and 114 with the children.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • read another of the Psalms within the Hallel
  • write their own praise Psalm for Pesach
  • write a praise psalm to commemorate an important event in their own lives
  • talk about what the Psalmist believed about God.
