Decalogue was originally devised as a memory game for between 2 and 10 players, supervised by a scorer.

The scorer begins by listing the names of all the players on the score card.

The scorer then displays and reads out the 10 commandments cards in order.

The cards are then shuffled and randomly placed faced down on the board.

The players each spin the counter. The highest score determines which player should start the game.

The highest scoring player starts the game by spinning the counter again. He or she is expected to recite the commandment to which the score corresponds. As an aid, all players are permitted to pick up one commandment card before each spin. If the player is able to recite the commandment correctly, the scorer makes a mark in the appropriate box. If not, the player with the correct commandment card may answer and therefore receive a mark. Play proceeds in a clockwise motion.

The winner is the first player to recite all 10 Commandments correctly.

Should a player spin a number which corresponds to a Commandment which he/she has already recited correctly, play proceeds to the next player. Another spin is not awarded.

A correct recitation does not necessarily have to be word perfect. Providing a player communicates the true 'spirit' of a commandment, a mark is awarded.
