Who does Christian Aid help in India? |
|---|---|
Meet Rangadesh...'Hi, I'm Rangadesh. I'm ten. I used to spend four hours every morning collecting water. The pump was miles away and there were long queues. Now that we have a new pump nearby I can do my homework and get to school on time.' Not enough clean waterThere's lots of clean water coming out of the taps in your house, isn't there? Many people in the world don't have clean water in, or even near, their homes and often get ill from using dirty water. Pumping powerNew water pumps like the one in the picture mean that people can stay healthy. Christian Aid gives money to many projects for clean water all over the world. Sameda works for a partner organisation called the Madras Christian Council. She says, 'It's amazing what people can do when they get together! We helped a group of women to protest to their local council because they had no clean water and the council gave them a water pump.' Christian Aid does not have its own projects. We only give money to projects that are run by the people they help. This is because we believe that ordinary people know best how to solve their problems.
