I have chosen to consider the theme of love at lower Key Stage 2 as experience has taught me that Year 5 and 6 pupils can find it embarrassing. I have also intentionally chosen to avoid exploring marital and romantic love because it may lead certain teachers into areas which they find uncomfortable. Teachers who feel confident including marital and romantic love in this theme should seek the advice of their headteacher before proceeding.

The aim of the scheme is to make children realize that, for Christians, Jesus' call to love is not the cue for an outpouring of sentiment but a challenge to become involved with other people in practical ways.
