To explore the meaning of the visit of the magi.

Lesson

Begin by reviewing what was taught in the previous lesson. Remind children that according to the Bible, the wise men did not visit Jesus until some time after His birth.

Share with the children the story of the wise men (Matthew 2:1-12).

Discuss the wise men and the symbolism of their gifts. Use the notes to support these discussions.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• write about a journey which they have made
• study the words of 'We Three Kings...'
• write about the best gift which they have been given
• think of the gifts which they would like to give. (Recipients can include their local community, Britain, the world, etc.)
