Aim

To begin to understand the Harvest as a metaphor

Lesson

Review what was taught in the previous week about the work of Christian organizations. The work of these organizations is based on the teachings of Jesus. Much of Jesus' teaching is contained in stories to do with farming and harvesting.

Why did Jesus teach in this way?

Share with children the Parable of the Rich Fool.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could

  • read and discuss or write a commentary on Jesus' other Harvest parables, Matthew 13:1-9, 24-30, Mark 4:26-29
  • make two lists of Heavenly and Earthly treasure
  • write their own Harvest story
  • define what they hope to be 'the harvest of their lives'

Conclusion

Conclude by discussing the saying, 'As you sow, so shall you reap'.
