Aim

To reflect upon Christian belief in a dependable God.

Lesson

Revise what was taught in the previous lesson about Creation. At Harvest time, Christians also thank God for being dependable.

Who are the people upon whom the children depend? Who depends on them?

Christians believe that God is dependable. There are many stories in the Bible which make this point.

Share with children the story of how God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness. (Exodus 16) and/or The Feeding of the Five Thousand (Luke 9:10-17).

Activity

Following discussion of the story, in groups, the children could

  • research the Jewish festival of Sukkoth and compare to the Christian Harvest
  • write a conversation between the boy (who gave the fishes and the loaves) and his mother on his return home
  • write an acrostic on the word DEPENDABLE
  • read Psalm 104 together
  • compare the two stories
  • bake and share some bread
