Franciscans |
|---|---|
Today there are hundreds of thousands of people around the world who call themselves Franciscans. Some of them are monks or nuns who live and work in monastries. They promise not to get married and not to have any money of their own. Franciscan monks and nuns sometimes wear a simple brown or grey robe with a cross on the back, just like the one which Francis wore. Other Franciscans wear ordinary clothes and have ordinary jobs. They can be married and have families. Whether married or unmarried, a monk or a plumber, all Franciscans try to follow Jesus as Francis did. Franciscans tell everyone they meet about Jesus. Not just with words but by the way they act, remembering always to put other people first. Franciscans try to pray and to read their Bibles every day. Like Francis, they try to make peace between people. Franciscans try to live simple lives and to take care of the environment. |
