Amongst those mitzvot (commandments) set out in the Torah, the Jewish people are commanded:

  • to respect your mother and father
  • to keep one day a week holy for God
  • not to follow other gods
  • to harvest in a way which leaves food for poor people
  • not to wear a tattoo
  • to love your neighbour as yourself
  • not to visit a fortune teller
  • to give charity
  • not to bear grudges
  • not to eat meat with blood in it
  • not to cheat other people
  • not to tell lies about people
  • to respect old people
  • not to sow your field with two different types of seed
  • to treat people from other countries fairly
