Notes

In order to properly appreciate the three individual faiths in the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition, it is vital to gain a good grounding in the oldest of the three: Judaism.

In the first half-term of this unit, the work focuses on the Torah, which itself lies at the heart of Judaism.

In the plans and resource sheets, I use the word 'Torah' in its narrowest sense as refering to the Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. For Jews, however, Torah represents the whole of the Jewish teaching from its beginning right up to the present day.

In the second half-term, pupils study the celebration of Shabbat, as it offers many insights into the Jewish way of life and the role of the Jewish home.

Note
The work for this year should not be split up into seperate units or delivered in a different order.
