Aim

To introduce children to a female follower of Jesus.
To consider how these followers live out Francis' prayer.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the prayer of Francis. Inform children that, throughout this term, they have only learned about male followers of Jesus. But, since Jesus first began attracting followers almost two thousand years ago, many women and girls have followed Him.

Share with children the life story of either Elizabeth Fry, Mother Theresa or Baroness Cox.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • read one of the other life stories and compare what the two women have in common
  • think about how these women are living out the words of Francis' prayer
  • interview a female follower of Jesus
