To introduce the character of Peter.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the calling of the fishermen. One of the fishermen was called Simon, but Jesus changed his name to Peter.

Share with children the story Simon becomes Peter.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• play a game of Twenty Questions
• talk about their nicknames / pet names or a name they would choose for themselves
• talk / write about a time when they were praised for getting something right
• use the worksheet to discuss how others see them
• begin a character profile of Peter

Conclusion

Conclude by informing the children that over the coming weeks they will be learning more about Peter.
