To know something about Jesus' first followers.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the Ichtus as a symbol for the followers of Jesus. The Ichtus is also a good symbol for followers of Jesus because some of Jesus' first followers were fishermen.

Share with children the story of Jesus calling the fishermen.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• read the story of the calling of the tax-collector, Matthew
• use the worksheet to talk / write about whom they would choose as followers
• read the resource sheet on The Twelve Apostles
• talk / write about why the fishermen / Matthew followed Jesus so willingly
