Aim

To revise what was taught last half-term about Jesus.
To introduce important Christian symbols.

Lesson

Begin by showing children the Ichtus symbol. Have any of them seen it before - either worn as a badge, or as a sticker on a car? What do they think it means? Invite suggestions.

Inform children that the Greek word for fish is 'ichtus'. When written as an acrostic, each letter of the word 'ichtus' is the first letter of a word to describe Jesus.

Use the resource sheets to inform children further about the meaning of the Ichtus symbol.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• use the worksheet to design their own badge
• write an acrostic based on their own name
• learn about the other symbols for Jesus
• identify the different badges on the worksheet
