To explore the theme of happiness.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about the Kingdom of God. Jesus' most famous teaching can be found in a long passage in the Bible called the Sermon on the Mount. The first thing Jesus teaches about in the Sermon on the Mount is about people who are happy.

Discuss happiness with the children. What makes them happy? Who are the happiest people they know? What makes these people so happy?

Activity

Following discussion, invite children to complete the Happy People worksheet, either, individually, in pairs or groups.

Discuss their completed worksheets, before sharing with them some or all of Jesus' list of Happy People. What are their reactions?

Conclusion

Jesus taught that these people are happy because they are in God's Kingdom. God will help them, comfort them and give them a reward.
