Aim

To begin to understand the significance of Sukkot.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson about obeying rules through the wearing of tefillin.

The Torah also contains rules about Jewish festivals. Around the end of September, millions of Jews celebrate Sukkot, which is a Harvest festival.

Use a Jewish visitor, a video, images or the text to inform children about the celebration of Sukkot.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could

  • read the story of the Jews in the Wilderness
  • find the instructions about Sukkot in the Bible (Leviticus 23)
  • design their own sukkah
  • interview a Jewish visitor about Sukkot.
