Up a level

On Good Friday, Christians throughout the world, remember the day when Jesus died on the cross.

In some churches the flowers are taken away and bright and golden objects are covered with a cloth. Pictures and statues of Jesus may also be covered and candles may be blown out.

At three o'clock, the time when Jesus died, a bell is rung as if for a funeral, and people say solemn prayers.

In India, some Christians eat bitter food.

Good Friday is a very sad day. In most churches, people do not shout or laugh out loud or wear colourful clothing.
