Aim

To become familiar with the Good Friday narrative.
To explore how these events are remembered by Christians.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson. Inform children that after the Last Supper, Jesus and his friends went to a garden to pray. It was while they were there that Jesus was arrested by a group of soldiers and police.

Share with children the story of Jesus' trial and death.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • talk/ write about the saddest day in their lives
  • use the notes to find out about how Good Friday is remembered in certain churches
  • look at different types of crosses
  • dye hard-boiled eggs red and decorate them with a cross
  • bake / eat hot cross buns and think about what they symbolize.
