Aim

To help children to begin to understand the Christian belief that each person is important to God. To become familiar with the parable of the Great Feast.

Preparation

Before the lesson read the parable (Luke 14:15-24)

Lesson

Begin lesson by discussing the topic of parties with the children.

  • What was the best party they ever attended? Why was it so good?
  • What is the best thing and the worst thing about giving a party?
  • What does it feel like not to be invited to a party?

Jesus told a story about a rich man who gave a party. Christians call this story The Parable of the Great Feast. Share the parable (Luke 14:15-24) with the children.

Christians believe that God loves everyone and invites everyone to love Him back. But some people choose not to accept God's invitation. Christians believe these people are missing out on something special.

Activity

Ask the children to use the worksheet to plan the best party ever.

Conclusion

Conclude lesson by inviting volunteers to share their party plans with the rest of the class.
