To become familiar with the story of Hannukah

Lesson

Begin by reviewing what was taught in the previous lesson. Inform children that over the next few weeks, they are going to be thinking about two celebrations which both take place in December.

The first one is Christmas. What event does Christmas celebrate?

The second one is Hannukah. What do they know about this celebration?

Inform children that Hannukah is a celebrated by Jewish people and recalls an event which happened a long time ago.

Share with children the story of Hannukah.

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• talk / write about 'miracles' in their own lives
• talk / write about a time when they were brave.
