Aim

To become familiar with the story of Jacob's Ladder.
To explore the related themes.

Lesson

Begin by revising what was taught in the previous lesson. Inform the children that Abraham's son, Issac, had twin boys called Esau and Jacob. Right from being in their mummy's tummy, Esau and Jacob fought each other. Once when they were quite old, Jacob cheated Esau. Esau was so angry that he decided to kill Jacob. So Jacob ran away.

Share the story of Jacob's dream.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • do a painting of Jacob's Ladder
  • write about a dream which they have had
  • write / talk about an argument which they have had with their brother or sister.

Conclusion

Conclude lesson by telling the children that, many years later, Jacob returned home to say sorry to Esau. And Esau forgave him.
