To begin to understand that the Qur'an is a special book for Muslims.

Lesson

Begin by showing children a copy of the Bible. Remind them that many people consider it to be God's Rule Book. Show them a copy of the Qur'an. Inform them that for many other people the Qur'an is God's Book of Rules. These people are called Muslims and their name for God is Allah. Muslims believe that the words of the Qur'an were given by Allah to a man called Muhammad.

Share the story of Muhammad with the children.

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

• listen to a recitation from the Qu'ran
• learn and recite a poem of their own choice
• interview a Muslim visitor about the Qu'ran
• copy some Arabic letters
• read and discuss some of the Rules from the Qur'an
• find out about Qur'an school.
