Aim

To begin to understand that rules have positive benefits.

Lesson

Begin by considering your list of class rules. (If you do not have a list, use this opportunity to draft one with the children's cooperation.) Read them through. Are there any refinements or additions to make?

Discuss the benefits of having rules. What would the class be like without them?

Activity

Following discussion, groups of children could:

  • change the negative statements in their list of class rules to positive ones
  • make a list of rules which they have at home
  • learn the rules of a new game
  • use the worksheet to differentiate between good and bad rules.
