Aim

To identify special people in own life. To recognize Jesus as a special person for Christians.

Activity

Discuss with children the special people in their own lives - parents, teachers, friends etc. Using the worksheet, invite children to draw gallery of special people. Whilst doing this, extract from individuals or groups, the reasons why these people are special to them. These comments can be written on the worksheet by either child or teacher. Are there some comments which can apply to all the children's special people?

Note these on the board. Collect in completed worksheets. These could be used as a basis for a special people display.

Lesson

Revise the work done last half term, by reminding the children that for some people known as Christians, their very special person is a man called Jesus. Show children religious images of Jesus.

How has the artist tried to show that Jesus is special?

Get the children to imagine that one of their special people is in the classroom now. What would they say to let this person know how they feel about them? (This activity could be developed further in English to write letters home.)

Conclusion

Conclude lesson by telling the children why they are all special to you.
