Notes and Hints for Assembly Leaders |
|||||||||||||||||
WelcomeWelcome to this addition to the Primary Vision resource. We have had requests and encouragement to write Assembly material, so here it is. Age GroupThe Infant age has been chosen because of the shortage in provision of Collective Act of Worship material specifically for these early years. These assemblies are written for this younger age range, Key Stage 1, but 7-8 year olds have enjoyed them too. The ideas can be adapted for older children but modify the stories if they seem inappropriate for your pupils. Visual ImpactThere should always be something to look at. The younger age range do need visual stimulation, and even pouring water from a watering can has a quietening effect! Focus TableA Focus Table (covered with a colourful cloth) makes a statement that the Hall or classroom has been set up for the special activity of a Collective Act of Worship. It gives children something new and different to look at each time. The use of a flip chart or overhead projector makes an assembly live, especially if you can draw quick pictures. PreparationYou will need to plan ahead and gather the objects together in advance. There is a story with each assembly outline which can either be read straight, or used as an idea to make your own. Time for ReflectionThis can take various forms. It may be thinking while music is played, a prayer (led or corporate), a reading or directed silence. Foundation and Curriculum LinksThe assemblies have a Scriptural base using a simplified Bible Reading or story. They could be used to link with RE, Literacy, Science, Music or Art. The BibleA number of Bible passages are referenced in the outlines. We suggest that you read these from a modern version such as the Good News Version (GNB). SongsSuggestions come from well known sources. Other material used is original and is appropriate for younger children aiming to enhance literacy skills as well as using simple music. PicturesA number of relevant pictures and text have been included as separate files. In each case clicking on the item gives access to an A4 size pdf format file. If required, this can either be printed on paper for display or on a transparency for use with an overhead projector. Web NavigationThe icons at the sides of web pages have the following actions.
FeedbackPlease let us have feedback on these assemblies so that future writing can be adapted to your needs! We hope that they are, above all, enjoyed, not endured! Audrey Bomford B.Ed.(Hons), Development Worker, |
